Meta Tests New AI Assistant for Facebook and Instagram

Published December 5, 2025

Meta is introducing a centralized support hub for Facebook and Instagram, the company announced on Thursday, noting that its previous support options haven’t “always met expectations.” The hub brings together tools for reporting account issues, recovering lost accounts, and accessing answers through AI-powered search and a new AI assistant.

The feature is rolling out globally on both iOS and Android versions of Facebook and Instagram.

AI Assistant Aimed at Personalized Help

Meta is testing a new AI support assistant designed to deliver more personalized guidance for tasks such as account recovery, profile management, and settings updates. The assistant will debut first on Facebook, with plans to extend it to other Meta apps in the future.

The company emphasizes that its AI systems are helping safeguard accounts, claiming that account hacks have dropped by more than 30% globally across Facebook and Instagram. AI also helps detect threats like phishing, suspicious logins, and compromised accounts.

In addition, Meta says AI has helped reduce mistaken account deactivations and has accelerated the appeals process when errors occur.

User Experiences Tell a Different Story

Despite Meta’s claims, thousands of users report that they’ve lost access to their accounts or Facebook Pages due to errors made by Meta’s systems. Many believe AI is involved, citing a lack of human oversight in support interactions. Some users have turned to legal action after losing accounts tied to their livelihoods.

The issue has become significant enough that an entire Reddit forum dedicated to lawsuits against Meta was created this year, serving as a resource for those challenging their account removals.

How the New Support Hub Plans to Address Issues

Meta says the centralized hub will streamline recovery tools, offering clearer guidelinessimpler verification, and improved notifications about risky activity via SMS and email. It also promises better device recognition and more direct access to security tools such as two-factor authentication, passkeys, and security checkups.

Account recovery will now include an option to submit an optional selfie video to verify identity.

Ongoing Confusion Over Constant Interface Changes

While Meta asserts the new hub will simplify support, it also acknowledges a potential downside: moving settings and help tools yet again may cause confusion. Over the years, Meta has repeatedly shifted locations of key sections like account settings, privacy controls, and data management tools. These constant changes mean users often struggle to find features that have been relocated or renamed.
